Context Awareness – Overview
This guide introduces the Context Awareness feature - an advanced agentic capability that enables your agent to understand where it's deployed and use that context to deliver smarter, more relevant responses.
What is the Context Awareness feature?
Context Awareness enables your agent to understand the environment in which it operates. When the agent is deployed on a webpage, a summary of that page is automatically generated and added to the agent’s internal system prompt.
This gives the agent awareness of the page’s content and purpose—so it doesn’t just respond to what the user says, but also understands where the user is. That context allows the agent to deliver more relevant, focused, and outcome-driven responses.

Why is Context Awareness important?
An agent that understands what the user wants is helpful. But one that also understands where they are? That’s truly powerful.
By understanding the page context, the agent can:
- Anticipate user intent more accurately
- Provide better recommendations or answers
- Increase engagement and satisfaction through more personalized conversations
This context makes your agent feel less like a general chatbot - and more like a smart assistant embedded into the user journey.
How Context Awareness works
- On the first load of the page where your agent is deployed, CustomGPT crawls and generates a summary of the page content.
- That summary is stored and added to the agent’s internal system prompt.
- The agent uses this context to better understand what users are likely to ask and how best to assist them.
- Supported deployment types are Embed, Live Chat, Website Copilot, and Instant Viewer.
