MCP server permissions

This page lists and explains all possible MCP server permissions for your CustomGPT agent.

What MCP permissions are

MCP permissions control what external AI systems—such as Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible client—are allowed to do when connected to your agent through its MCP server. Each permission unlocks a specific capability, and some permissions include additional related actions.

What each permission does

Send a message

Allows an external AI to send a message to your agent and receive a response. Includes:

  • Query CustomGPT knowledge base: Send a message and get a response from your agent’s knowledge base.

Read agent’s messages

Allows reading past messages generated by your agent. Includes:

  • Get CustomGPT conversation: Get all messages from one conversation.
  • Get CustomGPT conversations: Get a list of all conversations.

Delete agent’s messages

Allows deleting individual messages. Includes:

  • Delete CustomGPT conversation: Delete an entire conversation.

Read agent’s settings

Allows viewing the agent’s settings. Includes:

  • Read CustomGPT settings: Get the agent’s full current configuration and personalization state.

Update agent’s settings

Allows updating core agent settings. Includes:

  • Update personalization settings: Update most settings available on the Personalize page.

Read agent’s documents

Allows reading documents in the knowledge base. Includes:

  • Get CustomGPT knowledge documents: Return all documents in the knowledge base.
  • Get CustomGPT knowledge sources: Return all sources (sitemaps, Google Drive, etc.).
  • Get CustomGPT knowledge metadata: Return document metadata such as title, description, and image.

Manage agent’s documents

Allows managing documents and sources. Includes:

  • Add CustomGPT knowledge sitemap: Add a sitemap as a knowledge source.
  • Update CustomGPT knowledge sitemap autosync: Change autosync settings.
  • Instant sync CustomGPT knowledge sitemap: Trigger an immediate sitemap update.
  • Sync CustomGPT knowledge document: Update a specific document.
  • Delete CustomGPT knowledge document: Delete a document.
  • Delete CustomGPT knowledge source: Delete an entire source.
  • Update CustomGPT knowledge metadata: Update document metadata (title, description, image).

Access agent’s analytics

Allows retrieving analytics data. Includes:

  • Get CustomGPT analytics: Customer intelligence and analytics data.
  • Get CustomGPT analytics deployments: Deployment statistics.
