Agent’s general awareness of data sources
This step-by-step guide explains how the AI agent uses its built-in awareness of connected data sources to deliver relevant and accurate answers.
What is the agent’s general awareness of data sources?
The agent’s general awareness of data sources builds on our context-aware features, and is a default capability that allows it to understand and reference meta questions about the knowledge base you’ve connected — such as documents, websites, and other integrations. This awareness lets your agent:
- Identify which sources contain the requested information.
- Summarize or answer questions based on specific content.
- Suggest relevant resources when helpful to the conversation.

Note:This feature is enabled by default for all agents. Premium users can disable it — learn how to disable agent’s general awareness of data sources.
What it does
High-quality agents require broader context about their purpose and environment to deliver accurate, relevant, and proactive responses. By maintaining awareness of all connected data sources, your agent can:
- Reduce the need for follow-up questions.
- Offer relevant suggestions before the user explicitly asks.
- Answer questions about the location of specific information.
- Summarize procedures, policies, or other details from your content.
- Provide richer, context-based answers that improve answer accuracy and user satisfaction.
This capability is a key part of building a context-aware AI experience.
